My song, "Jimmy Beware" is now finished.

Well, it's more accurate to say that I've stopped messing around with it for a bit; mainly because GarageBand has started popping up messages about not being able to do real-time playback any more, due to the complexity of the piece.

I may just have to revisit it when I get my hands on a better computer. For now, it's all done.

Why didn't someone sit me down in front of GarageBand a long time ago?

Jimmy Beware is a song I made this evening from some stock GarageBand loops and samples ripped out of that old classic film, Boys Beware.

I've been slowly building up an old Blue and White Power Mac for ... well ... nearly three years now. I picked up the base machine for about $200, mainly so I had something better than an old Beige Mac to use a G4 processor that I had. It was the last model to use the same socket, basically.

Well, the final piece arrived this morning, thanks to our old friend eBay. It now has a decent video card; a PCI Radeon 7000. Not arse-kicking fantastic, but certainly respectable.

Now that I've finally built it up how I want it, what am I doing with it? Giving it to Eris, as her old G3 iMac is getting a bit long in the tooth and she's starting to get more demanding of her computer. Not what I originally had in mind, but that was quite a long time ago. She loves the Blue and White tower, and tells me she already has plans to decorate it.

I've been working lately on something that's been taking far too long, since I'm much too much of a perfectionist. What I'm supposed to be doing is writing administration tools for The Receptacle. What I've actually done so far is write a massive application framework in PHP, which allows templating and has all its functionality supplied by dynamically loaded plugins. It will be a good base to build these aforementioned tools on, as well as several other projects I've got going, but I'm currently spending all my time tweaking the plugin API, user authentication and template system. I haven't really written many plugins yet.

I have, at least, got a name for it. I've called my framework "Hubris", which is appropriate in many, many ways.

Not today, though! I'm shutting down the development machine and am moving the Playstation into the lounge room. I may go outside and buy coffee at some point. That is all I'm doing until it's time to go and pick up Eris from school.

My latest little project, Seditious Intent is up and running in a basic form. I've got quite a few things I want to add there - I hope I have time.
